Hi everyone,
Approximately a week ago I posted new information I found on my Carpenters.
Then realized when I didn't get the e-mail back myself, that I had been
unsubscribed from the list somehow. So... I don't know if I got any answers.
Here are my Carpenters...
Arthur Devere Carpenter 1867-1940 something, born in New York. He married
Grace Murdock (1874-196?) born in PA. Arthur was a lecturer on the Chatauqua
circuit.
Their children are:
Bernar - I believe he is the eldest and I have no dates for him.
DeVere (1893-?) b. in PA
Elizabeth (1895-197?) b. in Delaware, married unknown Cleveland.
Herman (1901-?) b. in Colorado
Helene (1903-?) b. in Colorado
Harry (7/13/10-1/86) b. in Seattle WA, died in Duxbury, MA
I hope to hear from someone who is familiar with this line of Carpenters.

Are you still out there? Please contact me. The DCPHX16107<at>AOL<dot>COM

Sorry list, but she has helped me tremendously in the past, and I need some
more help from her. Apparently she has quit the list or changed her email
address. If anyone knows it, please let me know too.
Donna was at DCPHX16107<at>AOL<dot>COM (DCPHX16107(a)aol.com) but this

Carolyn, I am new to this newslist thing but I wanted to tell you that
there are stories about a Jeremiah Carpenter in my Great-grandmothers
book --she mentions a Jeremiah Carpenter, grandfather of "Squirlie Bill"
in Braxton County, WVA. She recounts that he was taken as a "captive"
by the Delaware and Mingo Indians in 1750 near where Potts Creek and
the Jackson River join (Covington, Va). He was 9 years old. In later
years he was referred to as "Doctor Carpenter" of Nicholas County, WVA
Nicholas Co. was formed in 1818 and Braxton Co. in 1836. She says that
Jeremiah remained with the Indians at Oldtown, west of the Ohio River,
for nine years. It is probable that his knowledge of medicine came from
the Indians. When he came back he found his old home too settled so he
went to the wilderness of central WVa. He built a home on Elk River
about 12 miles from Sutton, WVa. This must have been shortly after the
Rev. War. There is a hair raising story of an Indian raid in which
Jeremiah's brother Ben and Ben's wife are killed but Jeremiah and his
wife survive--Jeremiah's wife hides a small daughter in a tree stump
when she hears gunfire. She further says that Jeremiah was the father
of Saul Carpenter and Saul was the father of William Carpenter.
Jeremiah once saved his family from Indians by wading in the water of
Elk Creek to Laurel Creek and staying in a cave there till the danger
was past. An Indian actually entered that cave but failed to discover
them. William Carpenter is also known as "Squirlie Bill" and he lived
to be 94. No exact years are given but he was a small child in 1793.
Presumably these were stories heard as a boy by my great-grandfather,
Joseph H. Carpenter. My grandmother's book is History of the
Carpenter's of Fort Carpenter 1746-1949, and author is Mary Evelyn
Harlow Carpenter. published in 1949.

Phoebe,
I didn't reply to your original request as I was just leaving on vacation. I
have a few other Moore relatives and a Wisner. I also have an Aunt that is a
Moore. She is from Colorado. She has just started the search for her family
so I'm not sure she would be of any help. I can't elaborate on any of the
Moore family but I do have more on the Carpenter side if you are interested.
Do you have the parents of Elizabeth Runyon Carpenter? Hope the following

Joseph Coles Carpenter. I'm not sure of his current email address. The rest

Hi everyone!
Just finished my vacation in Oklahoma doing genealogical research (what
else?).....and I found an important piece of information about my
gg-grandmother, Elizabeth M. Carpenter! I found a "consent" recorded by
her father, GEORGE F. CARPENTER, giving his permission for her to marry my
gg-grandfather, Willis Green Montgomery, on Sept. 15, 1844 in Lincoln
County, KY. This is the first time I've found the name of either of her
parents. I'm SO excited!!
Does anyone have a GEORGE F. CARPENTER in their files, and if so, do you
show that he had a daughter name Elizabeth M. born in 1824 in Middletown,
Jefferson County, KY? I'd love to hear from you!!
Thank you!

The first part of Sept. I was in Runnels, Polk Co., Iowa looking for part
of my family on my grandmother's side. I came across several headstones of
Grandpa's also. I have not made a connection, as I have very little on his
side of the family. Even if there is no connection to me, maybe this will
help someone else.

There were several newer headstones also, but time ran out on me. Hope
this helps someone. If so, please let me know so I can see if there is a

Hi Anita,
I would be interested in the information you have on CARPENTER. I have some
information (unsubstantiated) from a gedcom that was forwarded to me. It
sounds like the same John Carpenter but with somewhat different data:
John or Jean Le Carpentier. Born 1303-1305 in de Grand Pont, Du Nord, France.
John or Jean died in Dilwyne, Herefordshire, England aft 1345. Buried in
Gloucestershire, England.
Married: unknown
Children:
i Richard (~1335-1395)
ii William of London (~1340-1407)
According to the Gedcom, I am descended from Richard.
Looking forward to seeing what you have!
Thanks,
Barb
Greetings from Fife Lake, Michigan. Just wanted to share my excitement
with all of you on the list. I've recently received some new leads in my
step-fathers
family tree. I have traced his father (Jason Carpenter) back to John
Carpenter
who was born Abt. 1303 in Dilwayne, Herefordshire, England. His mother
(Larissa Loomis) heritage has been traced back to Oliver Lummyus born
Abt. 1469 in England. I've been able to trace his great-grandmother back to
Richard Newton born 1601 in England. There is quite interesting info.
On the Newton side he has quite a few Isaac Newton's but am not sure yet if
any of them are thee Isaac Newton. I have traced his line to Samuel Colt
who
made and patented the Colt Revolver. There are lots of stories also.
Indians
capturing family members, wars etc. Wow this genealogy thing is sure great.
Hope you all are able to soon know the excitement of finding a link in your
searches?
Well got to run. Looking forward to and enjoy hearing from all of you on
the list.

This is a news flash not a joke (> +- : )
If you are a Veteran or know a Veteran. This news may be of intrest to you
or them.
The president of the United States recently signed into law a bill that
affects all Veterans. This law states in effect that if a veteran has not
registerd at a VETERANS AFFAIRS HOSPITAL since October 1 1996, that on
October 1 ,1998 he or shee will loose all medical benefits for life. To
make it worse, the V. A. CANNOT notify veterans about it. That information
must be disseminated via word of mouth or by letter. It is recommended that
everyone eligible for benefits go to a V. A. office and sign up prior to
the October 1 st deadline. Regardless of weather they have recieved
treatment at a V.A. hospital since October 1 , 1996. This way no body will
fall thru the cracks.
