Regarding Bobby Carpenter's UFO theory. I certainly appreciate it. If you
find evidence, then you'll want to get a copy of Leister's Reunion genealogy
software as it does have a child status button labelled "alien abductee." No
kidding!

Standing here next to this BRICKWALL, I started to thinking about what I
have been reading about a group of Scientist starting to look into the
UFO sightings. I believe it might turn out to be a valuable break for
genealogists all over the world. History tells us that there have been
stories of landings all over the United States since the turn of the
century. I wonder if there were also sightings back in the early
1800's? If so, this could help explain the ancestry of my
Great-Grandfather John T. Carpenter.
The U.S. Census records for 1860, 1870 and 1880 have him as being born
in North Carolina sometime between 1823 and 1825. However, no
documentation can be found verifying this birth information. From the
time he married Frances E. Richardson on 18 Janaury 1855 and until his
death on 14 October 1895 various records have been found documenting his
life. In addition, he and Frances had six children and their
descendants can be traced from their birth to the present time.
My next project is to somehow in the near future get to one of the UFO
Scientist meetings and pursue the advent of genealogy with them. My
thoughts start something like this: suppose that a space ship landed in
a freshly mowed field someplace in the western part of North Carolina on
18 May 1823, and left a baby boy near a Lutheran Church. Why Lutheran?
Possible because some of the people associated with the church seemed to
be skilled carpenters and the UFO-space ship personnel saw something
that appealed to them in the construction of the numerous buildings in
the surrounding countryside. Most of the Lutherans were from Germany
and Switzerland. Their names were Zimmerman, however, in the United
States they were persuaded to change them to their English counterpart,
which is Carpenter. I know this is only a wild possibility, but one
that has a thread through to even the present day.
Many of John T. Carpenter's descendants were skilled in carpentry. Even
this writer is fairly skilled in the trade. However, it appears to end
there, because he has no idea on how to scale the present brick in front
of which he is standing. That is why the possibility of a space ship
dropping off a little boy in North Carolina is looking better all the
time.
There are also more hurdles to overcome-for example, how do you document
UFO's in Family Tree Maker? Does the vast library in Utah have any
microfilm on UFO's? What are professional researchers thoughts on the
subject? The list of questions goes on. I would deeply appreciate any
information, from anywhere, that might shed some light on exactly who
John T. Carpenter's parents were, or for that matter the exact name of
the UFO that could have brought him to North Carolina. Do you know?
Thanks very much. Bobby L. Carpenter

I am trying to fill in the blanks in some of my Carpenter line. Michael C.
Carpenter is the brother of my descendant but I would like to find out if
anyone knows anything about him. He would have been born in 1842 in E.
Baton Rouge Parish, La. His father is Louis or Lewis Carpenter.
I am researching Rebecca Leach CARPENTER (1896-1977), wife of Acel LEACH
(1870-1976) who married in Noble county, Ohio in 1914.
She was the daughter of Daniel D Carpenter (1860-1917) and Mary Pierce
(b.1860) of Deleware(?).
Daniel was the son of Gillispie Carpenter (1829-1963) and Savilla
(1833-1909) of Noble/Monroe county, Ohio.
I am trying to find information on the LEACH connection and have Carpenter
information to trade.
Thanks!

Hi Terri,
I, too, come from a line of Owen Carpenters - cousins, I believe to the
ones in southern MS (or at least further south than my Tippah Co.
Carpenters.
My lines goes (back from my father)
James Marshall Bryan/Virginia Codet Thompson,a "northerner"
Joseph Johnston Bryan/Lauricia Angeline Harvey
Mary Francis Carpenter(b.Tippah Co. MS)/William Thomas Bryan
Owen Francis Carpenter (d.1 Jul 1863 Gettsburg)/Nancy Ann
Smith (there was an Owen Carpenter/Smith who lived a
little further south in MS and also died in the Civil War
Elias Carpenter/Elizabeth C. Morgan (m. in Ky, Elias bn TN)
Owen Carpenter/two wives, Sallie (last name unkn)
and
Martha (Jane?) (last name unkn.) Owen was born in Moore
Co. NC ca 1775, d after 1860 Tippah Co. MS
Owen Carpenter/Catrin (or Catherine) This Owen probably had
John, Catheson, Katrin and Owen, at least. There were
two orphans (John and Sarah) living with him on one
listing. Owen (oldest) appears about 1767 in Moore Co.,
Catrin a little after that. We (several researchers)
suspect she may have been a Sheffield or a Shamburger.
Owen received several land grants in Moore Co., research
has not revealed yet why.
The elder Owen was killed by British troops while on furlough while
standing in his door way holding a young son - the son was killed also.
A researcher has found his gravesite on the Shamburger property - large,
flat, triangle shaped marker.
My Owen (bca 1775) left NC with family in the early 1800's and is found
in Lincoln Co. TN (served with the W of 1812 from there). Then to
Calloway Co. KY for a while, then on into Tippah Co. MS where they
stayed.
There were a number of Carpenters living in, I believe, in Montgomery
county next to Moore Co. at the same time Owen was there. There was an
Owen who married a Sarah Smith about 1795/6, dau of Nathan Smith
probably. I think this is the branch that eventually ended up further
south in MS.
There also were Jonathan, Temple, Solomon, etc. Carpenter in that nearby
county.
Does any of this ring a bell with the research you are doing?
I am sending this to the list site - since I have not yet posted this
information for others.
Look forward to hearing from you....

I know John isn't the easiest Carpenter to track, but here's another
one;
I'm looking for John C. Carpenter, born in VA c. 1806 m. to Margaret A.
born c. 1825 in Ohio. The 1870 census shows them present in Delphos,
Washington Twp, VanWert County with children Lewis H., Arthur, Charlie,
Henrietta and Edward.
Any help would be appreciated.

Do these Carpenters tie to the Owen Carpenter families in Mississippi, who
inter-married many time with the Minyards and were found in Franklin Co. GA

The Carpenter reunion is the 3rd Sat in July at the Asland rec.center.
Mom is
not sure why it was moved from the civic center.
Mom's direction's "You go out like you are going to Lineville. You know
where
the hospital is and cousin so and so lives in the big white house across

the hospital. Well, you turn by their house and it is right there".

They probably left MA/RI the same reason people went west later...more kids
to feed and they needed more land; there were a lot of possibilities out
there and as for as our area of VT after George Gardner went to the valley
that became Pownal (Bennington Co) VT it really settled fast. The Indians
were not creating problems as they had earlier...and in my opinion the soil
must have been extremely rich. The apples they grow there even now are
tops!
Just in case there are some new researchers on the list, in the early days
migration patterns were north and south, since further west wasn't
opened.............I am having grand lessons in geography and history as I
find my people moving up and down the 13 colonies...I am sure this was not
presented when I was in school, or if it was I sure wasn't smart enough to
pay attention. One of the best investments genealogists can make is to
visit your public library book sale and buy for 25 cents or less an old
American History high school textbook....
