What we are missing is Daniel J. Carpenter's parents, since he is really the
Carpenter name we need to trace. We have looked in many, many places and we
cannot seem to find his parents. Do you have any information regarding Daniel

Hi MCC, and List,
Ususally when I post a query on one of the lists the subject line looks
like this:
? HORST, ADAM> 1826-1884>GER>MA
I always put a question mark first when asking a question, put the name in
caps, last name first, aprox. dates, and area.
Looking for parents of Adam Horst as per below.
1 Adam Horst b: Abt. 1826 in Baden, Bavaria, Germany d: October 22,
1884 in Woonasquatucket, River, Providence, RI
+Amelia b: 1840 in Boston, Massachusetts d: Bef. 1872
*2nd Wife of Adam Horst:
+Helen Pein b: 1847 m: May 09, 1872 in Providence, Providence Co.,
Rhode Island d: October 23, 1874 in Providence, Providence Co., Rhode

Thanks,

Still can't help you but keep on posting every once in awhile, new people
are joining all the time so you never know.
I don't have a whole lot of info here other than what is on the website,
but I always check everytime a query is posted as I know the others on the
list do also.
Maybe we will get lucky one of these days.
But, that's what the list is for!
Good Luck,
Chuck

As far as standard query form: As people get into this more, they tend to
sort of follow some type of form that makes it easier to get the info
right off the top. I do agree that it is a friendly list serve, so I
understand some concerns. I also agree tho' that it is easier to help
people if things are short and sweet and distinct. But that comes with
experience I hope. I know pepperlaw is friendly so I'm sure his comments
were only to help.
One thing I find very helpful: When the subject line is rather specific as
pepperlaw suggested. Sometimes I am super busy and have 50 or more
messages to go through and if I can see by the subject that it is
something not related to me, I can just delete without opening the letter
and skimming it. I know, I'm taking chances on missing something. This is
just a thought and opinion on my part.

FEDDICK.
I'm following Chuck's lead and reposting my Amos. He was my gg-gf, and I
can't go back any further with my family name until I dig up the parents. I
can't even begin to tell all the areas I've checked, definitely all the
"routine" checks. (Have done THE Amos Carpenter's book).
Once again:
Amos Carpenter, b. April, 1787, Rensselaer Co., NY, emigrated from Granville,
MA as an 18 year-old in 1805, helped with the Rose family and others to settle
Granville, Ohio, m. Susannah ROSE, daughter of Lemuel, 1810. Children: Timothy
R. Carpenter, Truman W. Carpenter, Louisa (m. Labin Hough), Stephen Van
Rensselaer Carpenter (my g-gf) and Ellen (William Green Meredith). Ellen's
mother was Joanna Ashton. Amos died in 1858 in Columbus, Ohio.
Timothy, Truman, and Stephen were prominent businessmen in Columbus, OH in
the last half of the 1800s.
As a very young man, Amos owned several hundred acres of land in Licking Co.,
St. Albans township, which was military bounty land. I've been unable to find
out he was able to get his part.

Gordon and List-folk:
Gordon: Sorry but I can't help you. I don't have any information on your
people.
Everyone: Should we agree on some sort of standard query form?
How about if the subject line contains something more decriptive than
"Carpenter family" -- and the query include:
1. A location, if known, and more if they are useful. Most of us know
alot about a particular area, and not much about other areas. Putting the
locality in the query will help get the best results.
2. Dates, as Gordon's query had.
3. Whether the person asking the query has looked in one of the main
resources -- as a Rehobothian, I reflexively turn to A.B. Carpenter. If
you've already looked there, tell me, and I won't waste time looking for
someone who's not there. I know that others have texts of similar
usefulness relative to their particular tribe -- and guess that they would
feel the same way.
The subject line of this query could have been "Ann Carp. (b. 1717
[CT?]) m. John Hayward" Then the body could have had towns or
counties, and such other information as is known (and will be enough to
trigger a recollection -- you don't have to tell me much to tell me enough to
know whether the person you are looking for is someone I have found,
but you're going to have to give me more than just a name . . .)
Just a suggestion.
Charley

One of the things I have enjoyed the most about this list is that it is very
friendly and does not insist on a specified way of asking questions. We don't
all know the key sources when we begin a new family line. I hope that we can
continue to be patient with each other as we learn the Carpenter territory.

I am suppsed to but havent found where he was. Supposedly my Mathiias

Hi Carpenters!
I went to the Family History Center today. I copied some of the 1880 Soundex
Census information on my JAMES WARREN CARPENTER line. On those pages were
other CARPENTERS I thought someone may be looking for. (C615). Sorry, I had
to arrange it so I could sort it so it is not exactly orthodox format. If you
have any questions, email me.

Unfortunatly we just got our first one.
Because of this I have just closed the list. People who are not subscribed
