Hi Mary Beth, I notice you are searching for a Robert Carothers & Ann
Thompson. I have a William Carothers abt. 1820. I can't find where he comes from. He
shows up in the 1850 Blair Co, PA Census with his wife Anna Maria. They have
a young son, Joseph Erb Carothers, 1 yr. old, (my g. grandfather) along with
other family members. I notice some that may be just visiting. Their names are
Robert Morton, John Hoffman etc. I don't if they are family or friends. By
1860, evidently Williams father (William) 71 yrs old, is in the household along
with children, Joseph, 11 Jacob, 9, Margaret, 7, Robert, 4, Elmira/Elvira, 2,
Baby Jackson 6/12 months; along with the parents, Wm & Ann. I have no idea
where they lived before coming to the Blair County area. After Joseph grew up he
went into the Civil War when he was 15/16 yrs old. When he got out he m. Alice
Kephart from Clearfield. They settled in Osceola Mills and had 4 children; JF.
Carothers, Harry Bertha Alice, & Elizabeth May. Joseph passed away as a
result of dysentery he picked up while in service, and which he never got over
and complications of pneumonia. He hadn't reached his 31st birthday. Their
baby having been born about 2 months earlier. By the way Mary Beth, I also had
Carters in the Riceland, Veining Co. PA area; along with the John & Alexander
Shannon, Borland, Dunlop, Jack and Smith families. most of them came from
Center Co. PA Peens Valley area. I'd be pleased if anyone recognizes any of these
names. Contact me at Irishlovey(a)aol.com Dottie
