Trying to find more information on this ggg-grandmother.The first 'known' record
of her is from the IGI and it is her marriage record. It has her as Mary
Carruthers/Curruthers. I have seen the nae those ways as well as Caruthers and
Carothers/Carrothers. See married Isaac Hart in Baltimore Maryland on June 25/29 1819 in
the Associate Reformed Chhurch ( an off-shoot) of the Presbyterian denomination.
Her liofe after the marriage is fairly well documented. What is missing is her life up to
the marriage. That and her family.
I have found two baptism records where one of them might be her's. One is from County
Down in Ireland. It is for a Mary Carothers. Baptised on March 19, 1799 in the
Parish/District of Anahilt Presyterian with her address listed as Clogher. It lists her
father as Tom Carothers. No mention of a mothers name. The age would be close but not
exact. Well with-in the 'fudge' factor
The other is from County Tyrone in Irelans. It is dated from December 1794. It lists her
as Mary Carothers. The Baptism/Christening Places is listed as Dondghmore, Tyrone,
Ireland. Her father is listed as John Carothers and her mother is listed as Frances with
no last name. Her age on this on matches her age on the 1850 Census, it has her as 55.
I found a Transcription of a paasenger list the might have her on it. It is from the Ship
Ossian. It left Belfast for New York on June 20, 1816. It lists an Archibald, Jane and
John Caruthers along with an M. Caruther.
I do not know if this is her and family members and if it is then how and why did they
relocate to the Baltimore area. I have checked several things and do not find her at all
before her marriage.
Does she sound familiar to anyone? Ideas or information glady accepted.
Bob
