Charles (Shy) Howard Matchett, 50, of 1509 W. Market St., died Monday in Ohio Valley
Hospital from a self-inflicted bullet wound in the head. Mr. Matchett was found lying on
the floor of a bedroom in his home.
Mr. Matchett was born July 19, 1904, at Frankfort, Pa., a son of the late Alex and
Ella Carothers Matchett. He had been a resident of Steubenville Oh. for 20 years.
Mr Matchett was employed in the finishing department of the Wheeling Steel Corp. He
had been employed by the steel company for 23 years.
He was a member of the Steubenville Rifle and Pistol Club, the Bellview Golf Club,
the Wheeling Steel bowling team, the Schwaben Benificial Society and the National
Speleological Society.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Velma Roden Matchett ; a son, Stanley Richard Matchett
at home; one daughter, Sandra Kay Matchett at home; a grandchild, Shylene Dee Matchett;
three brothers, Byron and Joseph Matchett of Florence, Pa., and Donald Matchett of
Detroit; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Mellott of Weirton, Mrs. Lena Walker of Miami, Fla.
and Mrs. Charles Sweitzer of Franlfort Springs, Pa.
A son, Charles Howard Matchett Jr. preceded him in death.
Friends will be recieved at the McClave Funeral Home after 7 p.m.
The Rev. Alva Sizemore will conduct the final rites Thursday at 2 p.m. at the funeral
home. Burial will be in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, near Florence, Pa.
I found this partial obit in the papers of my late GAunt Mildred (Conn) Ramsey. I do
not have more info, dates or what newspaper was used. I hope this helps someone.
