Catherine McCauley
She was born Nov. 15, 1923, in West Newton, the daughter of James W. and Catherine Alldis
Carothers. She was a 1941 graduate of West Newton High School and earned a bachelor's
of arts degree from Allegheny College in 1945. Prior to retirement, she had been employed
as secretary/treasurer of the J. William McCauley Jr. Funeral Home. She was a member of
the Haines City United Methodist Church and a former member of the West Newton First
United Methodist Church. She was an original member and former treasurer of the West
Newton Swimming Pool Authority, and a former member and past president of the West Newton
Women's Club. A summer resident of Chautauqua, she was a member of the Women's
Club, a graduate of the Chautauqua Literacy and Scientific Circle and a former board
member of the Chautauqua Golf Club. Through the years, she was able to help many area
residents learn the skills of knitting, tole painting, bridge, and was a volunteer for the
Adult Literacy Program. She is sur!
vived by four daughters: Cathy Floriani, Patsy and Sally McCauley and Christine
Fernandez; a son, Jack McCauley; 11 grandchildren: Bernie Jr. and Brian Floriani, Lindsey
Floriani Arterburn, Jeannette and Jamie Miller, John, Ben, Andrew and Laura McCauley and
Elizabeth and Leonard Fernandez; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, James L.
Carothers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. William McCauley Jr. who died in 1995.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m.
Saturday in the First United Methodist Church of West Newton. The Rev. David Means, will
officiate. Interment will be in West Newton Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the J. William McCauley Jr. Funeral Home Inc., West Newton. To
