Interesting. Looks like your grandmother was from a generation later
than my gg grandmother. But there may be a link. I've been in touch
with a Carolan in Ireland who has family in Nobber. He promised to
send me whatever he can come up with.
Clinton County, Iowa is interesting, too. I'm in Davenport,
Scott County, just south of Clinton Co. A lot of Irish settled in
both counties. My Carolans never made it out of central Illinois,
about 100 miles south east of here. Maybe they had cousins in Iowa.
My gg grandmother, Julia Carolan, had a brother, Bernard, who
came over in 1852. In 1861 he joined the 2nd New Jersey Volunteer
Infantry and served 4 years in the Civil War. He can be found on a
website dedicated to 2nd NJ, and I have some information on him from
the Illinois and National Archives.
