My mother's CAROLAN family is also from Bailieborough, Co Cavan. They were
forced to emigrate in 1820. BRYAN (also known as Bernard) Carolan was a
convict and sentenced to the penal colony of NSW, Australia, for his
involvement in a local uprising that resulted in the death of an English
tax collector. Full details are provided in my 1998 book 'Carlon's Town: A
History of the Carolan/Carlon Sept and related Irish pioneer families in
New South Wales'
You are the first Carolan genealogist I have come across in 20 years
research with Bailieborough roots.
Is any there folklore in your family of a cousin who was transported to
Australia for a serious crime?
Happy to share information on the gaveyards that I have transribed.
Regards Damian Gleeson, Sydney, Australia.

Lawrence,
Several of my Carolans came from that area. Specifically Bailieborough
area. The
lived in the Waterloo, Grousehall area. Information I know
starting in the 1800 -- Phil Carolan married Mary Sexton. The children I
know of are Terrence, James, John and Stephen. Terrence, James and John
came to America. Stephen remained in Ireland and had 6/7 children whose
names are -- Thomas, Bridget, Mary Ann, Andrew, John, James, Stephan. So
far we are trying to confirm Stephen's wife name -- we were told by
relatives it was Kate Tierney but our research in Ireland in September 2001
points to Susan Clarke.
If you have any information on this line would love to here from
you.
