Hello to fellow Carolan Researchers,my GG Grandfather was Michael
Carolan b. circa 1836 somewhere in Co. Meath. He married Martha
Gaynor in Kells in 1872(She was from Clongutery, Kiltale, Co. Meath
and the eldest of 7 children born to Michael Gaynor & Jane Behan.
They had 9 sons and 2 daughters. Their first child Patrick Carolan
was born 1873 and baptised in Monalvey parish and the other 10
children were all born at Dollysgrove near Dunboyne and were baptised
in Kilcloon church. Their names were as follows:
Michael Joseph b. 1875 d.1903 in Athy, Co. Kildare
Mary b. 1877 d.1907 in Dunboyne, Co. Meath
Jane b. 1879(My Grandmother) d.1908 in Maynooth,Co Kildare
Joseph b. 1880 d.1962 in Conn. USA and buried
in Rooske Cemetary, Dunboyne
Matthew b. 1883 d. 1938 in LA California USA
Christopher b. 1884 d. 1938 in Pittsburgh PA, USA
James b. 1886 d. 1958 in Clonsilla, Dublin and
buried in Rooske Cemetary Dunboyne
Thomas b. 1886 d. 1911 in Dollysgrove Dunboyne
John b. 1892 d. 1924 in Grangegorman Hospital
Frank b. 1896 d. 1946 in Wheeling WV, USA.
I have traced my Carolan ancestors who emigrated to the USA but know
very little of the Carolans in Co. Meath, Ireland. I want to find
out more about my GG Grandfather Michael Carolan, in particular his
parents and siblings if any. I am guessing that his father may have
been a Patrick Carolan as Michael named his first child Patrick. On
Michael & Martha's marriage cert the witnesses were Owen Harte & Jane
Smyth, maybe they were relatives ?. #
Does any of this sound familiar to other Carolans from Co. Meath ?
Would to love to hear from you, Regards Mary.
