Bernard Carolan (11/2/1836 - 8/25/1906) emigrated from Nobber, County
Meath to Newark, NJ in 1852. He served in Company C, Second New
Jersey volunteer infantry, 1861 - 1864, and was wounded at the Battle
of the Wilderness. Following the war he settled in Canton, Illinois
in 1867 where he married Mary Josephine Finan and raised seven
children.
Bernard's sister, my gg grandmother, Julia Carolan (10/8/1835 -
1/8/1912), also from Nobber, came to US in 1850 with her father,
Thomas. They lived five years in Jersey City, NJ before moving to
Canton. There she married Michael Daily and had four children. Juia's
obit states that she was "the last" of nine children. Nothing is
known about anyone except Bernard.
I look forward to comments and questions. Thanks.
