The Carneys in my family also spent some time in England prior to coming to the US. I
don't have info on why they went or how long they were there. One of their children
was born in England.

Just a thought... during this time frame many people went to England looking for work
that wasn't available in Ireland. The Irish were leaving in droves coming to the USA
as well, anything to prevent starvation.

Upon receiving the marriage certificate of William's son William Arthur, it
appears that William was born in Liverpool, England and not Ballinasloe,
Ireland. Now I wonder why they were in Liverpool in 1847...?
