Janice--I was intrigued by the similarities in your Carney line and
mine...although my line is Kearney. (wish they could have made up their
minds!)
Here's my line...I did notice that there is a Francis in your line..a name
that is frequent in mine...and one of my ancestors, Esther Carney/Kearney,
did marry someone from Michigan...I believe his name was John Saltsgiver, and
they were married in 1877.
1)James O Kerney b. 1784 (presume Ireland) d. 1846, Yates Co, NY m.
Elizabeth Walden in Torrey, Yates County, NY in 1815.
2) Alexander Carney b. 1818, Maryland?, d. 1878, Mishawaka, IN m. 1)Electa
Butler b. 1817
m.
2)Amanda Ford Oliver b. 1820 (2 children..Esther b .1842 from 1st marriage;
Francis b. 1848 from 2nd marriage)
3) Francis Lawson Kearney b. 1858, Mishawaka, IN d. 1936, Mishawaka, IN m.
Orsie Carlton 1888
4) Burton Edward Kearney b. 1883, Wichita, KS, d. 1943, Chicago, IL m. Betsy
Cunningham 1909
5) my mother, born Chicago, died Chicago
Burton Kearney had a brother, George Kearney. These two men married two
sisters, Betsy Cunningham and Gertrude Cunningham. Both families settled in
Chicago...but George and Gertrude Kearney eventually moved to Indiana.
Another strange coincidence regarding the name Francis....for many, many
years, family legend said that the original Kearney/Carney ancestor was named
Francis, and that he had come from Ireland in 1811 aboard the ship "Radius"
which left from County Cork and arrived in NY. It has only been in the last
couple of weeks that I have discovered James Kerney and Elizabeth Walden
Kerney as parents of Alexander Carney, and not Francis, as originally
thought. I have proof, but it's not super positive. Does any of this ring
any bells with your line? Kathy in IL
