My Carney line starts with Stephen Carney in Mamakating Precinct, Sullivan
Co., NY (now Ulster Co.). According to the History of Sullivan Co., in 1774
a road survey was done and Stephen Carney and Solomon Terwilliger are
mentioned. The 1790 census shows Stephen Carney with 2 males over 16 and two
females. This Stephen Carney's son, Stephen Carney was born 07 Jul 1774. He
married Leah Terwilliger on 27 Jun 1794 in Hopewell Presbyterian Church,
Thompson Ridge, NY. They had 11 children. The oldest, Solomon Carney was
born 23 Jun 1795 and married Mary ?? (possibly Mary Belcher, other family
researchers say that is his wife, however, I have never been able to prove
it) Solomon served in the War of 1812. After the war, and before the 1820
census, the entire family moved to Greene Co., PA . About 1830, Solomon moved
to what was Tyler Co., VA, now Wetzel Co., WV. The Sims Index (land book of
WV) shows his getting land (Book 1, pg. 322 in 1833). Stephen and Leah moved
on to Rush Co., Indiana with some of their children. They are buried in
Walker Twp., Manilla Cemetery. Solomon stayed behind in WV. Solomon and
Mary had 6 children. The oldest, Stephen was born 15 Feb 1817 in Orange Co.,
NY. He married Catherine Miller 14 Mar 1837 in Tyler Co., VA (now WV). They
had 10 children. Their son Hiram born 05 Dec 1843 in Wetzel Co. is my great
grandfather. Hiram married twice, Helen Riter the first wife is my line.
Does anyone connect with this Carney family? Let me hear from you.
