Searching for more information about Edward W. (possibly for William) Carney, born in
March, 1858/1859 in Watertown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He died in Boston in
November, 1937 after his leg turned gangrenous and was amputated at mid-thigh. He is
buried at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham, Massachusetts.
In the 1900 census, Edward is listed with children Mary Catherine, Nellie and William in
Watertown. He says he has been married for 16 years but there is no sign of his wife.
According to daughter Mary Catherine's marriage certificate, her mother was Catherine
Moore. Edward's death certificate lists wife as Mary Moore.
In the 1880 census (LDS transcription), I found 60-year-old William Carney, 50-year-old
wife Bridget, 22-year-old son Edward, and 28-year-old son John living in Watertown. I have
not yet been able to find this family in 1860 or 1870.
Would love to know if I am on track with Edward. Are William and Bridget his parents? What
happened to Edward's wife, Mary Catherine Moore? Where was she in 1900? I requested a
marriage certificate for Edward Carney and Catherine Moore from the Massachusetts archive
but came up empty.
If you connect to this family, please contact me.
Thanks,
Melissa
