Mary Ann,
I will review some of my information and see if I can get any more family details from it.
Quite a bit of the information I have been able to find came from the Civil War pension
request files of Edward Carney and his widow. Edward was injured on the USS Minnesota,
which was the ship that the Monitor and the Merrimac were fighting over when they had
their famous battle. Edward was injured during that battle and his injury was not recorded
at the time, so he had to supply a lot of reports and affidavits to try to prove his
injury and get his pension. (His injury - He was a "coal heaver" on the USS
Minnesota and when the battle was going on he stuck his head out a porthole to have a look
and was injured when a "gun went off unexpectedly" next to his head. (I assume
the "gun" was actually a cannon.) He suffered a bad head injury and damage to
his hearing that continued for the rest of his life.) I tease my Mom that it figures
someone in her family was in this famous battle -!
and gets hurt while gawking out the window!
Anyway, all of the reports and letters he had to submit to verify his injury contain a
fair amount of family histories and other information, so I will look back through those
and see if I can find anything.
The Carneys seemed to like to use the same names a lot! There are a zillion Edward
Carneys, too.

Hello,
Thanks to all of you that answered my request!
Mary Jo,
Wish I had more info but that's all I have. I just rec'd Catherine's
marriage certificate in the mail and that's how I obtained the names of
her parents. I learned from the census that her parents were both born
in Ireland and she was born in Mass., this info indicates that they had
arrived in Mass before 1870. It is possible that we could have a
connection, I wish I could get more info about John but when I went
through Ancestry, I couldn't believe all the John Carney's!!!!!!! I'll
keep searching!!! I did notice that you have a Kate Carney born about
the same time as Catherine, interesting.

I had some Carney relatives in Boston around same time as your John Carney. They also had
some sort of New York connection. My Edward Carney had at least two brothers, Patrick and
Michael, and may have had other siblings. They came from Ireland somewhere around the
1850's. They seem to have come into New York, but fairly quickly moved to Boston, so
they may have had relatives there (that's just my guess at they had family there.) I
don't know if any of this info will help.

Hello,
Does anyone have this family in their family tree:
John Carney, b. Ireland and lived in Boston, he was married to Margaret
O'Brien or Margaret Price, b. Ireland. They had a daughter Catherine
Carney born in Mass. about 1868-1870. Catherine was married in NYC in
1896, she died in 1936.
Thank you, Mary Ann
