I have a giant gap in my great grandfather's life that I am hoping some
of you can give some clues to.
Chesterfield M (possible Monroe) CARNEY was the s/o Harry D. Carney and
Sarah Murphy, he was their seventh child.
Born in March of 1849 in Port Royal, Montgomery Co., TN he is shown in
the census record with his parents until 1860 at age 11. Then he totally
disappears from the face of the earth until he marries my great
grandmother Columbia Porter BRANHAM on June 12, 1892 in Crawford County
AR. That next July at Oolagah Oklahoma Indian Territory my grandmother,
Galenah CARNEY their only child was born. They divorced soon
afterwards. Chesterfield would twice more that I know of to a woman
named Ida? and to Emma Adeline Eurella Turner Donley. (yes that is just
one woman).
Where was Chesterfield from 1860 to 1892? He once told one of his
grandchildren that during the war they put young boys in jail for
stealing corn from the army horses. Could he have been imprisoned
during the war? He'd only have been 12 or so.
Any suggestions on how I can fill this 32 year gap? Jan who has all his
census records forward, but cannot find him during the missing 32 years
in OK
