Hello. I'm an amateur with little time for exhaustive research, but I know
some things. Here is an overview of what I know or suspect. If anything
strikes a chord, let me know and I'll see if I can provide more info.
I'm Benjamin Franklin Carney III, born in Stone County, Missouri in 1944. My
father, BFC II, was born in Stone County in 1915. My grandfather, BFC I, was
born in 1882 in Barry County, Missouri, on the Carney homestead. My great
grandfather, George (Cooney) Carney, was born on the Barry County homestead
about 1855. My g-g-grandfather, Calvin Carney, was born about 1818 in his
father's homestead in Edwards County, Illinois. His father, Thomas Carney II,
my g-g-g-grandfather, was born in 1789, probably in North Carolina near
Nashville, N.C. His father, Thomas Carney I, my g-g-g-g-grandfather, was born
in 1741, probably in Stafford County, Virginia. His father, John Carney, my
g-g-g-g-g-grandfather, was apparently born in Stafford County, Virginia about
1700 (maybe as early as 1680.) I know that Thomas II, my g-g-g-grandfather,
left N.C. with his wife Nancy Susan Warmoth and three other couples,
(Greathouse, Sams, Bell) in 1812. They traveled through Tennessee to Edwards
County, Illinois, arriving there in 1815. Thomas and his family, including
his son Calvin, left Illinois in 1846 and traveled to a new homestead in
Barry County, Missouri, arriving there in 1847.
I have visited the Barry County homestead many times. I've also visited the
Illinois homestead. I'm now searching for the N.C. home and the Stafford
County, VA home. I enjoy standing on the actual land and imaging my
ancestors' lives. Buried somewhere in my unorganized files are pretty
complete lists of the families I've mentioned. Good luck with your research.

Hi Ben, Your research sent a little light bulb off in my head. I have a Mary COONEY on
papers, as a marriage Witness and her Prayer Card (she died 23 Dec. 1952, most likely NJ.)
I had no idea why she kept popping up and saw no family tie (embarrassing to admit)
figuring she was just a close family friend, until I saw your post. I'm now thinking,
duh, that her name CARNEY was written wrong and she just accepted it like so many.
Overlooked the obvious. Thanks for the wake-up Ben. Tim searching COLL, CARNEY, BEIRNE,
MURRAY, SHARKEY, NOONAN, O'RORKE, EGAN, MURPHY or REDMOND, WICKS and McGARRY from
Roscommon to NJ
