Dorothy L. Carney Norton
Dorothy L. Carney Norton, age 71, White Mills, died Wednesday morning, April 17, 2002 at
the Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart following an illness. She is survived by her good
friend and companion, Glenn W. "Fuzzy" Johnson.
Born May 7, 1930 at Tanners Falls, Wayne County, she was the daughter and last surviving
member of the Ferris and Harriet Swartout Carney family. She was a graduate of the
Honesdale High School and a lifelong area resident. Dottie was a seamstress and machine
operator, and throughout her life she worked in factories in the Honesdale, Hawley and
White Mills area. She was employed at Amber Lingerie and later retired in 1996 from DS
Knitting, White Mills. Dot was a great companion, aunt, and friend who was a kind and
enjoyable person with a great smile and a zest for life. She will be missed.
Surviving in addition to Glenn "Fuzzy" Johnson are two nieces, Wanda Dayson
Moore of Honesdale and Dorothea Stanton Hunter of Carbondale; three nephews, David
Weisensale of Carbondale, James Carney of Honesdale, and Robert Carney of Beach Lake and a
sister-in-law, Mary Lou Carney of Honesdale. Also great-nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her funeral will be conducted from the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale, on
Friday, April 19, 2002 at 11 a.m. with services by Rev. Paul McCauley. Interment will be
in the Indian Orchard Cemetery, Texas Township.
As per her request, visiting will be Friday from 10 a.m. till service time at 11.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne Unit, American Cancer Society, 627 Main
St. Honesdale, 18431.
