We appear to have a James Carney in our family. He enlisted in the Mass
Infantry in Boston in May of 1861 when he was 20 years old. I have
copies of his enlistemnt records through August 1863. They indicate
England as his birthplace. According to the records, he was injured at
Winchester on May 15, 1862 and was either sick or wounded and
hospitalized in May/June of 1863.
Our sparse family tree later shows John A. Carney and Hannah Hurley as
parents to several children, the first born being a James Carney born
June 8, 1895, but lists him as deceased October 26, 1896.
Probably no relation at all, but thought it was worth a note.
Good luck,
Eileen Carney Richards
