The last land record found in Cherokee Co. for Shem was in 1865. Priscilla
"Kearney" was head of household in Fannin Co. in 1870 with the younger children.
That same year the son Lot was in Polk Co. TN, just north of Fannin Co. By 1880
Priscilla also relocated to Polk Co. We have never found any records anywhere for Shem
after that sale of land in Cherokee Co. in 1865. He probably died bef 1870, but I have no
proof.
I don't have any evidence that Priscilla was a daughter of William Hughes. The Martha
and Elizabeth Carney with them in 1860 were probably daughters of William W. Carney by his
1st marriage. (Shem's daughter Martha had already married Thomas Parker and was
living next to Shem's household in 1860.) The Cysa with William Hughes in 1860
appears to be the 1st wife of William W. Carney.
