Salem, MO of tuberculosis --married Jerome Pease.
So in the 1900 Dent County census Malinda is living with her daughter Rachel Addie Pease.
Addie's husband had died in 1891 of tuberculosis and Addie would die soon in 1903 of
the same disease according to the Salem newspaper
obituary. As you said, Malinda's granddaughter Lizzie Caviness is living there also.
In 1910 Malinda is living in Oklahoma with her grandson John Franklin Caviness. From the
records I've been able to collect I know for sure that 4 of Malinda's children are
dead by that time and John Young Carney has tuberculosis and will soon die in 1914. The
other 3 --Robert, Joseph, and Roseanne --I can not find any records to follow whether they
were alive or not in 1910. So my guess is that Malinda, who was 78 years old at the time,
needed someone to take care of her and John Franklin Caviness did that for her.
I have read a small book about the Missouri Baptist Home for the Aged in Ironton,
Missouri. It was started as a place to take care of aged Baptist Church members who did
not have any other place to live or anyone to take care of them. It was started about
1912 (if I remember correctly)and took in just a few residents. The book lists Malinda
Shults Carney as one of the first residents there. So she was one of the first residents
at the home. She didn't live much longer and died in 1915. The reason she is buried
at the K.P.Cemetery in Ironton, Missouri is because that was her last residence. As far
as I can tell all her children had died before her too.
I hope this answers a few of your questions. It is good to talk with you again.
