HI my name is Krissy, Maureen is a friend of mine that let me use her ancestory membership
to find some info on my family, with no luck though. My father insists that our spelling
of our name has alrays been Carney. I am unable to trace my grandfather past his resting
point. He died when my father was very young. He was from New York, and the records
building (so everyone says:) ) burned down. So all I know is the day he died, his brother
and my grandmother any info would be great...Krissy Carney-Lawson..P.S. All the
Carney's that I have talked to here have been from Michigan with no twins...My grandpa
was a twin

I don't know how common the name Carney is, but I do know that Carney is the
spelling. There was no "K" in Gaelic. The name is derived from Cearnaigh.
I'm looking for Carneys from Dingle in County Kerry. There were also many
Carneys on the Great Blasket Islands. I was told that they started spelling
their names differently to make it easier for people (or mail) to find them.
