hi Ken
your description of your family sounds very like my husband tall brown eyes
dark skinned and very slim - wonder if you come from the same Carneys? My
husband's surname is spelt Cairney but his grandfather was Cairnie and a
couple of generations back from that were Carney. I would be interested in
any information you find as a result of clearing the loft!!
thanks
Joan

Subject: Re: [CARNEY-L] Carney - County Tipperary
hello to anyone who is interested,
some years ago, 1986, i paid a genealogist to research my family tree,
some
information came to light which i have not pursued since that time
due to
my
heavy work/family commitments and financial constraints. I do have
some
documentation in my loft, and i am about to move, so will at some time
unearth it and pass on to anyone who is interested. what i do recollect
is
that the name comes from McCarney, MAC Carney and corrupted
spellings,
dependent upon the area, may change the name. this could also be said for
MC Kearney, and so on.
I understand that the area of County Omagh, or County Mayo, County Cork
were
mentioned and may be located near each other???? i have never checked
this
out. What i do know is that some information came through about a woman
(named in the document as a possible relative ) found dead in her
cottage/hut ? pre 1600 with 100 irish coins (pounds?) sewn into her
mattress.
My own father has recently died and knew little of his family, they were
all
tall over 6foot in height, black haired, dark brown eyes and very
dark
skinned, very slim, almost asian looking. There are 2 families of Carney
in
this area, and aparantly not related to each other, the other family
being
black haired and blue eyed and within the past 35 years came directly from
Ireland.
good luck with your enquiries.
ken carney
