Johanna Fitzgerald, emigrated from Doon, Glenville, County
Cork, Ireland to Grosse Isle, Quebec, Canada, with her husband Patrick
Kearney
(Carney) who died from ships disease during the voyage, and their 10
children. After her husband's death, she and her 10 children crossed the
border to the US and took a covered wagon to the midwest. She stayed there
for 3 years, and then came East and settled in Salem, MA with part of her
family. The children who remained in the midwest, as far as we know were
Maurice, Mary Ellen, Thomas and several more who's names are unknown to us.
The Massachusetts Carney's have had no contact with and have no knowledge of
their midwestern relatives. If you are in the midwest and have knowledge of
an ancestor who's mother was named Johanna Fitzgerald Carney (Kearney) from
County Cork, Ireland, please let me know.
