This is my grandmother's family. Her name was Loretta Rose Carney born in Mankato. Her
parents were James Francis Carney and Alice Kearney.
Patrick Henry Carney was her uncle. Patrick and James were the sons of James Carney and
Rose McKeon.
The family came from the area of Clones which is on the border between Monaghan and
Fermangh. Its also the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
They came over in the Potato famine and lived in Buffalo N.Y. They went to Lacon,
Illinois, ca 1856. During the Civil War P. H. moved to Logansport, Indiana, then to
Minneapolis Minn where he married. Then he moved to Mankato.
James enlisted in the Union Army and was discharged after being wounded. He lived in
Logansport, Ind. for many years before moving to Mankato for a few years ca 1890. He then
moved to Chicago for the remainder of his life.
I found some information, was given some by the historical society in Mankato and got some
from Laura Carney Miller whose husband was descended from Patrick.
