Hi,
You might find this interesting. It is all about Clarecastle. It is from "A History
and Topography 1837 by Samuel Lewis" The link is:
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/places/clarecastle1837.htm
I have found that the Clare Library online is very helpful.
Clarecastle is in the civil parish Clareabbey. I found this information at
http://www.seanruad.com/, which will help you a lot with the townlands and parishes etc.
At
http://www.failteromhat.com/post1845.php, I found a Carney William Clarehill Town of
Clare Quay Road Clareabbey Clare. Is this your ancestor?
In looking at my book,"A new Genealogical Atlas of Ireland", I see that
Clareabbey is on the river Fergus, which runs into the Shannon River. Glin, Kilfergus,
Limerick where my 3x great grandfather comes from, is on the Shannon river not too far
from the Fergus river.
It seems that there are a lot of Carney/Kearney families in Clare and Limerick. I wish we
could all compile our information somewhere and see what we have in common. I will start
even though I have posted before:
My 3xgreat grandfather was John Kearney. He was born in either 1806 or 1819. In his
Declaration of Citizenship he says that he was born in 1819 in Glynn, Limerick. However,
in all the census records and on his headstone in South Portland Maine, he was born in
1806. He immigrated to Saint John NB in 1842. Lived in Sidney Maine from approximately,
1843 to 1845. In 1845 he moved once again to the Portland Maine area. In 1850 he was in
Yarmouth Maine where he built his house in approximately 1855. He was married to Mary
Scanlon, where I do not know, but most people think they were married in Glin, as there
are many Scanlons living there.
Would love to hear other people's stories of their Carney/Kearney families.
Good luck with your search.
Regards, Liz
