Hi Ben
John & Mary Carney are the parents of Thomas, Aboslum, and several others
all born in Stafford Co. The record in Stafford indicates Thomas & Sarah as
the parents of a John Carney. As you visit Stafford Co you will find
several Carney families. There will be Frances, Mary, Reuben, Joshua, John,
Thomas
You will find Thomas who died in 1744 and many researchers have him as the
father of John. But there is another Thomas in same area signing documents
up thru 1752. Not the same Thomas who died, right? So I have been trying to
find out the other Thomas. Also, the Thomas who died in 1744 in Fairfax is
not the brother to John Carney in Berkley co, who left a will 1775 referring
to "his nephew Thomas an orphan & is a minor. Thomas who died 1744 could
not have a minor child in 1775. All of his sons who have to be of age.
You will find a John who is a indentured servant in 1739 on a Plantation in
Stafford Co. I would love to find more about this John and then find info
on the John who is the son of Thomas & Sarah, same area.
Thomas found in the Maryland early settlers list 1662 had a Thomas Jr who
shows up 1666 and you will find John, Elizabeth and a couple others. When
you follow the migration of the families of Stafford Co. VA. You will find
that the Brent family, Clifton family, Anderson family, all came from
Maryland. Thomas Carney & other Carneys are found near this families in
Maryland. So had applied the theory that The Carney line in Stafford came
with these families from Maryland. I have not found link to the Carney
lines of Norfolk, VA and have followed that family as well just to make sure
that they were a separate family and as of this date, the evidence remains
the same.
As far as Thomas born 1789 in SC, as the son of Thomas born 1741 in Stafford
I have not found supporting evidence. If you have any would appreciate a
lead to find it. My theory is Thomas born 1789 is the son of Absolum born
1745 in Stafford Co. VA. Absolum is documented going to SC with Onesby, his
half brother. Jesse appears there as well 1790. However, I can not find
the Thomas born 1741 in 1790. Records support the Thomas who was born in
SC, migrating with other sons of Aboslum through GA, Kentucky, Tenn, and
then on into Illinois and some to Missouri.

Hi.
Thomas Carney (born 1789 in Carolina) is my ggg grandfather. I knew that
his
father was Thomas, Sr., born 1741 in Stafford County, VA. And I
suspected
that his father was John, probably also from Stafford County. But your
posting is the first I have heard of the previous generation: Thomas, 1662
in
Maryland. Could you tell me where you found the info? This would make
the
Maryland Thomas my gggggg grandfather. Fascinating. I have a hobby of
physically visiting the lands where these ancestors lived. I'm up to
Stafford
County now. Can't wait for next trips. Ben Carney
