Hi, I'm new to the list and am trying to locate confirmation of information regarding
David Coleman Carney.
What I have is:
David Coleman Carney (son of Thomas Carney and Mary Hunt) was born in North Carolina in
about 1811.
He married Margaret York (daughter of Jesse York and Nancy Gibson) in Bracken County,
Kentucky on Jul 19 1839.
David and Margaret moved to Mercer County, Illinois and then Scotland County, Missouri.
David is said to have been seriously injured and completely disabled during the Civil War.
It is doubtful that he was in military service as searches of Union, Confederate and
militia records have turned up no record). I believe he may have been injured in one of
the many raids that occurred during the war in Missouri.
Whatever the cause, David went to live with his half-brother, Washington Carney, in
Holden, Johnson County Missouri while his wife remained in Northern Missouri with her
daughter's family. David and Margaret are said to have corresponded during this time.
David is said to have died on September 29, 1866, presumably in Holden. However, there is
no gravemarker in the Carney plot at Rock Springs Cemetery nor is there a record of his
burial anywhere else in Johnson County. He is also not buried with his wife. I have been
unable to locate an obituary.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
