I'm trying to trace the ancestry of the Carney branch of my family tree, and seem to
have hit a dead end.
My great grandmother Annie was born in Nova Scotia to Patrick Carney and Bridget Driscoll.
The earliest record I've been able to find is Patrick and Bridget's marriage
listing in Pictou County Nova Scotia in 1867.
I'm fairly certain that Patrick was born in PEI, the only conflicting record is his
death certificate from Lawrence, MA, which lists Nova Scotia as his birth place. My guess
is that the informant (his son James) was mistaken. According to the death certificate,
his father was also Patrick, and his mother was Mary McKenna. However, the marriage
listing lists his parents as Michael and Mary.
The only baptismal record in PEI for a Patrick born to Michael and Mary in the appropriate
timeframe bears a last name of McCarron, with McKenna being the mother's maiden name.
From the 1844 baptismal record to the 1867 marriage listing, I can't find anything.
Mainly because I'm not sure what last name they went by.
Every record seems to have a different variation. The marriage listing is Carney, the 1871
census is McKarney, the 1881 census is McCren, 1891 is Karney, and the 1900 US census is
Carney.
Anyone out there know anything about these Carneys or McCarrons or whomever they are?
