illiard - A memorial mass celebrating the life of James Francis Carney, 46, of Hilliard,
Ohio will be held Friday October 25 at 3 PM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in
Youngstown.
Jim died October 16, 2013 following a 4 year battle with brain cancer.
He was born May 12, 1967 in Youngstown, Ohio the son of James and Marlene (Fossesca)
Carney and was a 1985 graduate of Boardman High School.
He married Lisa Andrews of Niles, Ohio in 2002 and the couple had one daughter Madeline.
Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the
University of Cincinnati in 1990 and pursued post-graduate work in Environmental
Engineering at U.C. from 1990 to 1992.
He worked as an Environmental Engineer for the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for
21 years.
Jim coached the 1987 Ohio State Little League Championship Team and most recently, he
coached his daughter's regular season and the all-star soccer teams in Hilliard
Recreational Soccer League of Columbus.
An avid runner, he was a multiple half-marathon finisher. Jim was interested in all sports
and was a blogger and producer of Touchdown Radio productions from 2007 - 2012 as well as
a statistician and research analyst for ESPN2 in the late 1990's
He is survived by his parents James and Marlene Carney of Boardman, OH; his wife Lisa
Carney and beloved daughter Madeline of Hilliard; siblings Bernadette Carney Torretta
(Gino) of Miami, FL, Kristin Carney Bueno of Fort Myers, FL, and John Carney (Julie) of
Powell, Ohio; as well as two step-daughters, Kristin Andrews Christy of Columbus, and
Megan Andrews Stein of Erie, PA.
The family will receive friends from 2 PM until the time of the mass on Friday at the
church.
