Message Board Post:
My mom (Helen Mae Carney born 1952) along with 5 other siblings, were taken from their
mother (Ethel Marie Carney, born in Ohio somewhere around 1933) in Arizona. We have not
gotten all the records from DHS to confirm what my mother remembers, but my mother thinks
that her maternal grandmother was Helen Mae Carney (who she was named after, we are not
sure of the spelling of Mae or what her maiden name was). She was married to a Arthur
Carney or a Arthur J. Carney (I always got the impression that Arthur was Ethels step
father and that Ethel took his name). My mother remembers there being an aunt named
Mildred and a Uncle named Jimmy (not sure of last names or who's siblings they are)
who lived with them in AZ. I know that Ethel went from Ohio to Mississippi, to Florida and
then to AZ, because her children were born in all these states. I have not been able to
find Ethels birth/death certificate (which makes me think that she was not born a Carney),
but at least three of h!
er childrens birth certificates have her listed as a Carney (and that she was born in
OH). We are looking for information about Ethel, her 3 missing younger children, Jimmy,
Bonnie and Diane who are believed to have been adopted and her entire family line. My
mothers next sibling was also named Arthur Carney (b. 1954, believed to be named after his
step-grandfather). Do you know a date when Helen and Arthur got married? Was it before
of after they went to AZ? Do you know who all her children were? We are just beginning on
this journey to find our family, and I hope we are able to help each other make some
connections.
Thank you,
Kelley
