Jane M. Ward Carney, age 95,
of Erie,PA,
passed away Monday August 15, 2011
surrounded by her loving family at at Walnut Creek.
Jane was born on February 14, 1916 in Erie the daughter of the late James and Margaret
Sheehan Ward. A lifelong resident of Erie, she was a graduate of Strong Vincent High
School. While her children were attending school, Jane became an active volunteer in the
PTA at St. Joseph Grade School, Villa Maria Academy, and Cathedral Prep. She was a
longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and more recently had been attending St.
Jude the Apostle Catholic Church. She was also a member and former treasurer for the St.
Mark's Seminary Auxiliary. Jane was extremely proud of her five children and their
accomplishments, and also loved following the lives and activities of her seven
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death
by her husband, William J. Carney; a grandson, William J. Carney; three brothers; Thomas,
Robert and James Ward, and three sisters; Mary Suhanek, Gertrude Hall, and Dorothy Ward.

illiam J. Carney and his wife, Sharon of Erie; Robert E. Carney of Bath, Ohio; Timothy P.
Carney and his wife, Carol of Lapeer, Mi.; Jane Ann Carney of Erie and Mary Pat Froehlich
and her husband, Gary of Erie. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, five
great-grandchildren, and two sisters-in-law, Patricia Dunford and her husband, Richard and
Florence Ward. Jane also has many nieces, nephews, and cousins along with a dear lifelong
friend, Marian Kuhn Moser. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home,
West 9th & Liberty St. Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and are
invited to attend Prayer Services there Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of
Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary
Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Emmaus Ministries, 345 East 9th St., Erie, PA 16503 or
to St. Anthony's Wayside Shrine, PO Box 595, Canfield, OH
