MISS SARAH CARNEY
APRIL 25, 1940
Miss Sarah Carney died in a hospital in Manteno Friday (April 19) afternoon at 2:25 at the
age of 60 years.
The body was brought to Chatsworth Saturday and rested at the Roach Funeral Home until
Sunday when it was taken to the P.H. McGreal home until the hour of funeral Monday at 9:30
o'clock. Services were held in Saints Peter and Paul's church, of which she was a
lifelong member and where Rev. Father Philip Markey conducted the last rites. Burial was
in St. Patrick's cemetery where her father and mother are buried.
She was born in Charlotte township, February 5, 1880, one of three daughters born to
Thomas and Ellen Carney. She was better known here as Sadie Carney, rather than Sarah.
She spent her entire life in this locality. She had been in failing health for several
years but the direct cause of her death was a paralytic stroke. Her mother died in 1923
and her father in 1924. A sister, Mr. M.H. Murphy, also preceded her in death in 1917.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. P.H. McGreal, and the following nieces and nephews;
Mrs. Charles Hubly, of Chatsworth; Mrs. Cointha White, Mrs. Mary Parks, Miss Josephine
Murphy, Francis, Raymond and Fern Murphy, all of Chicago.
