Thanks so much. I hope to go visit all the Carney places in Ireland.
This is very helpful.

Hi Tonya-
There is another Carney Castle- this one a restaurant- in the town of Cashel in south
Tipperary. That is probably where your reunion would have been.
All the best!

I see that you mention the ruins of Carney Castle. My father use to receive an
nvitation to a Carney family reunion in Ireland near the Carney Castle. This
ould have been around 1980 or so. He didn't know any of the Carney's in
reland and never attended. I have always wondered where it was. Thank you so
uch for mentioning it.

ubject: Re: [CARNEY] Elizabeth Carney Sligo, Eire
or those interested, just north of Sligo City and slightly west of the main
oad to Donegal is the village of CARNEY. I stopped there in August of this
ear, but was not able to find anyone who knew anything about the history of the
illage or why it was named Carney. If you are in that area, Laura's pub
oesn't open until 5pm apparently, and I don't know when the Chinese Take-out
lace is open. Both were closed when I was there in mid afternoon. The other
illage named CARNEY that I am aware of is in County Limerick just north of
enagh near Lough Derg. Just south of the Village is the ruins of CARNEY
astle, but even though I had good directions and a couple of pictures, I was
nable to find it. It is on private property and is not open to the public, but
am told that the owner will usually let you visit. No one in the village
eemed to know anything about the castle. Otherwise my visit to Ireland was
reat fun.
