In the tract by Fleet Carney, all that she says about Rice Carney is that she did not know who Rice's father was. I believe that Rice Carney was the son of Thomas Carney, born about 1770 in Norfolk County Virginia. My line of descent is Rice, Benjamin F, Richard F, Edgar F to Otey Carney (1918-1988). Otey Carney was my mother.
Fleet Carney clearly shows your line is descended from WIlliam Carney.
William Carney (c1625-1683) m Abigail Starnell(?) , Richard Carney (c1660-1710) m Abigail ?, Thomas Carney (c1690-1756) m Elizabeth Wright, m Sarah Clifton. Several of Thomas's children (Absolom, Richard) moved to NC. One, Barnaby (1730-1773), is a possible candidate for the father of my Thomas, but I have not seen enough to convince me yet.
There was also a branch of Carney's from Stafford County, and some seem to think that Thomas was from that area. It's quite possible that the two lines (Stafford County and Norfolk County) are related but I have not done much research on that as yet. I would be interested in keeping track of what you find. Good luck!

Just happened to read your obituary to William. Funny, my uncle, Everett Carney worked for years at the plant in Akron and I think his kids still live around there. We are probably related when Billy Carney came west to WV. Lots of my uncles, and my dad used to travel from Charleston WV to Akron to work, often hopping trains, when times were tough, and I guess Everett stayed.

Gee, I have Sarah Clifton as wife of Thomas CArney, Jr. born 1690. I am going to Fairfax library next week to try and clear up some things. Also have new records of chain carriers for G. Washington, Thomas CArney and went to visit land belonging to him which, strangely enough is only 10 miles from me!

My Thomas Carneys get unclear. Thomas came in late 1600, early 1700's to Somerset co. Then it seems they moved to Norfoldk Had a son John in 1739 in Fairfax Co. Then they went west to VA, Thomas his son was born around 1768 in Virginia, now WV, married Mary Polly Parsons and died in Ripley, W.Va. where he is buried. They are probably all uncles, cousins, etc.
I do have wife of Thomas Carney born in 1690 is Abigal Starnett..
