Hi there. Sorry, I don't think our Mary Carney's match. Myg grandmother was mary Carney, married to Michael Carney, both born in Ireland, parents "unknown" on census and children's marriage doc's. She died in Concord while living with her daughter, Mayr Perroni. in 1910/ hope this helps. However, do you have a more current e-mail add for patricia raczynski? i sent her an e-mail & it was returned. thanks, Maureen

I hope this reaches you. I MADE A MISTAKE!! I have all these names & sometimes I mix up. My gr grandmother was Margaret Carney. Your Mary Carney on this notice was her sister. My grandmother was Mary Galvin. I think I said in my last email that Mary Carney was my gr mother, but she was my grandmother & she died in Concord, address with Mary Peronni @ 13 Maple St. It was after mary died that things went really nuts to trace my grandmother. Will explain when we talk. I am discouraged cuz I tried your e-mail & it didn't go thru, I hope this does. Maureen

I'm sorry, I do not remember who it was yesterday that was trying to
figure out how to find the parents of Christine Carney in I believe it
was Fayetteville, AR yesterday. I had a thought, it may or may not help.
I think you said that she was born in 1931 or there abouts. That means
when she died she would have been eligible for social security death
benefits, possibly. If you know her name at her death, find her in the
ss death index and then request her records. If they have them they
should list her parents. Jan who hopes his helps in OK
Angels come in all forms and by all names. My angel this week is
Cornelia. She became intrigued by my Two CARNEY scenario and especially
with Chesterfield Monroe CARNEY and the 32 year gap in his life where he
seems to just disappear. Many, many researchers have tried and failed
to fill in even part of that gap. She has just narrowed it by 10 years!
Chesterfield M. CARNEY was b. March 1849 in Port Royal, Montogomery Co.,
TN and died December 29, 1928 in Ft. Smith, Sebastian Co., AR. He was
the s/o Harry D. CARNEY and Sarah MURPHY. He's with them in the 1860
census at age 11 and then he disappeared as far as any researcher I know
of has found (up to now) until he's 42 and marrying my great grandmother
Columbia Porter BRANHAM.
They had a daughter named Galeenah CARNEY who married Jesse James
POYNER, who married Martha SCOTT of the Two Carney scenario.
Enter Cornelia into my life.
She and I have been sending theories and ideas back and forth for a few
days. I mentioned to her how badly I had found his name butchered (on
ancestry he is listed as Cluster F. Corny on one census).
The following is the email I just got from her:
I found him! I started thinking about what you'd said about
misspellings, and I did look for him yesterday under Camey...my own name
gets mushed into Comelia sometimes. so I got to thinking and came up
with Cawy...and suddenly shifted to Carry...and there he was!
Chesterfield Carry, 1870 Tennessee > Montgomery > District 1. b. 1852 TN
he's a farm hand living in the household of Sylvester A. Murphy, and
Ches's brother Thomas is with him. "
Do you know what a find this is! I e'd her back that I bet the
Sylvester A. MURPHY whose home he is in is most likely his father's
half-sister Sylvester A. CARNEY who married Lawson J. MURPHEY. It would
make sense after all that if something had happened to Lawson that her
nephews would go to her farm to help her out.
I was already bouncing from this email pretty good when she sent the
following:
"you're right! Sylvester's a female! yahoo! Thomas Powell is the other
male in the household. and Charles Murphy lives next door, maybe another
relative? and Robert Murphy two doors down and a Nancy Murphy near the
bottom of the page. Sylvester's the first person on the page."
OK, by now I'm starting to put Tigger to shame with my bouncing. You
see all I have on Harry D. CARNEY's mother (Harry is Chesterfield's dad)
is her name is Sarah "Salley" MURPHY.
Now it's brought back to me full force that Harry's half sister married
a MURPHEY (different spelling in my files) and his children are later on
staying with his half sister surrounded by MURPHY's. Oh there has got
to be a lead somewhere on to Sarah MURPHY's ancestry.
All I have so far is an old note on Harry D. (called Henry D. by some
researchers) CARNEY from my files: In a note from Robert Carney: "Little
known - lived in Montgomery Co. at least until 1860, then disappears.
Have found no deed records or other indication that he owned land. Did
find two instruments of trust that obligated personal property against
debt. Also, found an instrument where he disclaimed any interest in the
estate of Jenkins Murphey, thought to be the father of Harry's wife,
Salley Murphey. 7/24/96 - sent query to Montgomery Co. Library to see if
they could do some research."
Could the J, in Lawson J. MURPHEY's name stand for Jenkins? Is he
Sarah's brother? Is that the will referred to? Or is it the fil's name?
Cornelia is still looking and so am I. I wanted to pass this along to
all those folks who wondered where the heck Chesterfield went. Jan who
hasn't had a new lead on this lineage in 20 years in OK
I have been corresponding with so many people about the joining of
these two lines I forgot who I have spoken with. I just received a copy
of Uzal Wesley Carney's draft registration card and need to get it to
the researcher I promised it too. My overloaded brain has forgotten who
it was. HELP! Jan who wants to fulfill her promise in OK

Message Board Post:
Looking for date of death for Charles Scott Carney, born 1851 in VA, parents Abraham Carney and Nancy Jones. Charles was first married to Sarah Scruggs, who died in 1883. He was also possibly married to Dora Hobbes around 1890. She is listed as a widow in the 1900 Census in Pawnee Co, NE. She later married a Firkins. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!
I have a puzzle for all of you. It ties back to the Martha SCOTT issue
that Colleen and I have been keeping the list informed on. It has to do
with two CARNEY men that I have yet to definitely connect, but who are
very likely to be related in some manner.
Starting with Jacob SCOTT he had two lovely daughters (he had more, but
for this scenario we are only going to discuss two of them). Those
girls were the infamous Martha Ann SCOTT b. April 01, 1848 in Putnam
Co., IN d. January 12, 1929 in AR. and her younger sister Malinda SCOTT
b. April 28, 1850 in probably IN d. November 13, 1930 Milton-Freewater,
Umatilla County, Oregon.
1. Martha married Jonathan (John) L. POYNER and they had a son named
Jesse James POYNER who married Galeenah CARNEY. Galeenah's father's
name was Chesterfield Monroe Carney b. March 1849 Port Royal, Montgomery
County, Tennnessee d. December 29, 1928 Ft. Smith, Sebastian Co., AR he
was s/o Harry D. CARNEY and Sarah MURPHY. At age ll Chesterfield had
disappeared from the face of the earth and didn't surface again for 32
years when he married my great grandmother Columbia Porter BRANHAM in
1892, Crawford County, Arkansas.
In trying to figure out where he was I and other researchers have found
his name mutilated in many ways, ranging from Carny, Corny,Carey,
Corney, etc. On ancestry for the 1900 census the index shows him as
Cluster F. Corny. I've found him as CM and CF as well, not to mention
the possiblity of the variations of Monroe (his middle name).
One researcher recently showed up a Ches. Carey born PA (not TN) on the
soldier's site on ancestry that is the right age to be my Chesterfield
Carney, married to a Louisa Vickery in MO. Could he have gone to his
northern relatives as a Union Sympathizer?
He once told a grandchild that asked what he did in the Civil War that
they put young boys in prison for stealing the horse's corn to eat. Was
he imprisoned?
That would be a long stretch, but Jacob SCOTT was in MO at one time.
In that afore mentioned 1900 census Cluster F.(Chesterfield) is listed
in the home of Mary ALEXANDER.
Jacob Scott's second wife was Ellenore Ellen (ALEXANDER) COUCH/KUTCH.
Yet another long stretch, but a similarity.
2. Malinda Scott married Samuel VANCIL, they had a daughter Anna Genetta
who married Uzal Wesley CARNEY on October 12, 1898 in probably OR. He
was b. 1874 in possibly IL or KY and died 1939 in OR.
Uzal was the s/o Francis S. CARNEY and Martha Sophronia Perry d/o Uzal
Perry. The Apr 1910 census lists Uzal as born in IL. It says his father
was Ire-English, and his mother was born in IL. Sam and Malinda VANCIL
were living with Uzal and Anna in Apr 1910 in South Milton Pct.,
Umatilla, OR
Apr 1910 census South Milton Pct., Umatilla, OR family 210, Farmer,
wheat farm
The name Uzal has been found mutilated to Usual and the Hebrew spelling
of it is Uziel or Uzeil (forget which ds said when he looked it up for me).
Both Uzal and Chesterfield married the same generation of Jacob SCOTT's
offspring (gdaughters).
That's the tale I have so far. I feel these two men are related in some
way, but where do I look next? Anyone have any suggestions? Jan who
just knows that all of this ties together in a neat package some how in OK

I've just been given the lead that the parents of my Uzal Wesley CARNEY
may be Francis CARNEY and Martha Sophronia PERRY.
Does anyone have them in their files? Jan who is still bouncing from
her latest lead in OK
Leads come to you in mysterious ways. I received an obit and a
newspaper article in it that has possibly opened up a bit of my great
grandfather Chesterfiled M (probably Monroe) CARNEY's missing 40 years
of his life.
The lead was in an article written in 1938 in a newspaper from
Milton-Freewater, Umatila Co., OR. It is telling about some of the early
settlers in that area and is speaking about the children of Jacob and
Delilah (MOSS) SCOTT. It reads:
""Here Mr. and Mrs. SCOTT, Malinda, Frank, Margaret and Henry SCOTT
settled down to make their home. That was 72 years ago this fall but
Henry SCOTT, who is now making his home home with his niece, Mrs. U. W.
CARNEY, 774 North Main St. Milton, and his sister, Mrs Margaret SHEETS
of Joseph, who recently visited at the CARNEY home, still remember that
trip."
To some this may not seem important, but to me who is trying to prove
that her Martha SCOTT that married Jonathan (John) L. POYNER is the
Martha SCOTT that is the d/o Jacob and Delilah (MOSS) SCOTT it could be
very important.
Now here is what I know:
Jacob and Delilah (MOSS) SCOTT --just the kids involved in this
scenario. They are generation 1 let's say.
In generation 2 we have Martha, Malinda and Henry SCOTT .
They married John POYNER, Samuel Washington VANCIL and Mary ATTEBURY
respecitively.
Generation 3 Martha and John POYNER have a son, generation 4, named
Jesse James POYNER who marries Galeenah CARNEY--this is my ancestry (I
have her father's, Chesterfield M. CARNEY'S ancestry.)
Malinda and Samuel VANCIL have a daughter, generation 4- Genneta Anna
(Anna Jeanette in some records)VANCIL , who marries Uzal Wesley CARNEY
born 1874 in either IL or KY according to a lineage I found in my family
tree maker world family trees cds.(read unverified). No info yet on his
lineage, This is what I am looking for!
By 1939 Henry SCOTT is living in Genneta CARNEY'S house! Oh there has
got to be a connection in there somewhere!
Does anyone on this list know anything about Uzal Wesley CARNEY'S
ancestry? Jan who is very, very excited in OK
Hi - I'm new to the list and hoping someone can help. My greatgrandmother
was Catherine "Kate" Carney, b. 20Mar1873 in Iowa, d. 5Jun1950 in Dubuque IA.
Supposedly her parents (or at least her father) came from Ireland and
changed the surname from Kearney to Carney.
She married John Miller (changed from Mueller) 7Oct1896 in Dubuque. They
lived for a short time in South Dakota but otherwise seemed to stay in the
Dubuque area. If this sounds familiar to anyone, any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Lori
