Do any of you have connections to Carney's from around Roanoke VA? I've
discovered that my Nicholas Carney married Emeline Davis in Roanoke.
See her widow's pension file below:
"I Emaline Carney a resident of the County of Fentress and State of
Tennessee on oath say that I am the Widow of Nicholas Carney who was a
private in Company H. of the Eleventh Regiment of East Tennessee Cavalry
and who died on or about the 26th day of December A.D. 1863 in Knoxville
State of Tennessee
do state that she was married to the said Nicholas Carney in Roanoke
County in the State of Virginia on or about the 15th day of September
A.D. 1841 by one Aaron Newman a minister of the gospel who was about
eighty years old at the time of said marriage and supposed to be dead.
Would state that she cannot produce record of said marriage that the
records of the same were destroyed during the late rebellion and that
the Minister who solemnized the said marriage ceremony is dead as she
believes and all the eye witnesses are in unknown regions if living and
there is no private or baptismal records of said marriage and that
better proof does not exist and cannot be obtained than the evidence of
marriage here to fore filed of cohabitation this 21st day of March
1867."
I'm trying to determine who Nicholas' parents were.
Sincere Thanks

Absolum Carney Sr. was born in Stafford Co. VA. He migrated to SC, where he died in 1832. Several of his children moved on, Lott moved to GA with his sons from his second family, Children from Lott's first family moved into Kentucky, then to Tenn.( my direct line) Absolum Sr.'s other sons, Shem migrated to Ohio, Thomas went to Ohio, ended up in Missouri. son John died in SC 1857, Eli died 1809 in SC. Joshua went to Tenn, (through GA up into Kentucky). Onesby (pynerly) was a brother to Absolum Sr. He moved to GA. His wife's name was Molly. Pynerly was a mis interpreted or misread during a transcription of the census records. When you look at the actual census (Washington DC) you can see the name as Onesby. Since then I found land records, and other records regarding Onesby Carney born in Stafford Co. along with his brothe Absolum. Have more on the family Myrna.

Thanks Tom!,
This info will help me research William Carney.
Thanks,

My greatgrandmother was also a Carney, HONOR CARNEY, she and her sister MARY
CARNEY came over from Ireland approx 1892, settling in HOBOKEN, NJ, they
both married in the US, my grgrandmother stayed in NJ, and her sister moved
to Brooklyn, NY.
I have very little data on these women and my experience is that the CARNEY
line goes way back and was a very prolific line.
Best of luck in your research
Mary

There is no known information on a burial place for William Carney. It is presumed that he was buried on the family farm in Norfolk County, Virginia. The main library in Portsmouth, Virginia is an excellent source for information on the Carney family. As for his ancestry, I have no hard evidence, but I was told that my aunt found information in either the New York or Boston library showing a William Carney leaving Ireland at about the right time. She was never able to prove that he was the same one who settled in Norfolk County, Virginia. The only link was in the family names. William Carney of Norfolk County, Va. gave his children the same names as were found in that Carney family in Ireland. In short, look in the New York and Boston libraries.

Hi! Would also be interested in John Carney as i begin search for ancestry of my grandfather, Leo Carney, a lawyer and district court judge in Kearny (no relation) NJ. I've never heard of a Carney (Irish) not born in US, so I suspect the name goes back to early days of our nation.
Best regards.

Good Morning All,
Most of you know about the DNA Research, I found a way
to be part of it for free.
If you want to learn or be a part of this worldwide
genealogy construction, offered by LDS and BYU, go to:
http://molecular-genealogy.byu.edu/
to get a calendar for your area:
www.smgf.org
Please excuse any duplicate notice you get, I felt
this was important to get out. One free lecture and
collection is Saturday, August 17th, but there are
others. It won't give us individual molecular
genealogy right now, that is still costly, however it
is important and worthwhile to genealogy research.
Happy Hunting to all, Sheila searching McGarry, Egan,

Dear Pamela,
Thankyou for your reply to my request. Marjorie is my son-in-law's mother. He is RL Stanley. He knows I am interested in geneology and asked me to see what I could find out as to his mother's background. Do you have info dating back a number of generations? I know RL would be so happy to have it and I would love to fill in that void in my granddaughter's geneology.
You are her niece? How are you connected? I would like to pass this on to RL. By the way, he is a FINE man, husband and father. His Mom would be proud.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Hecker

Hello, to all my Mo Carney relatives.
Recently I received an email from a Elizabeth Carney Waegelin who helped me in finding my Carney lineage. WOW!!!!! What a thrill to find that my great grandmother Mary B. Carney had relatives in and around Dent Co. Mo. Elizabeth's Carney line and my Carney line connect with two brothers who married two sisters. My line is Mary's father was John Carney b. 1829 in TN and her mother (I have a photo of her) Melinda Shults Carney Shumate. The photo I had said "grandpa's grandmother Shoemaker".
Elizabeth's line is a Edmond Edward Carney b. 1832 Mo and her gg grandmother is Polly Ann Shults.
I have Melinda's and Polly's brothers and sisters, but, do not have any of John's children's families.
His children are as follows:
Mary b. 1850
Joseph"Jasper" b. 1852
Martha Jane b. 8 March 1854
Mahala E. b. 1856
Robert S. Feb. 1860
Roseanne f. b. 1862
John Young b. 24 Feb. 1865 marr. Terry
Rachel "Addie" b. 28 May 1867 marr. Jerome C. Peace
Edmond Edward & Polly Ann's children:
Everett b. 1864
Joseph b. 16 Aug. 1864
Sarah b. 21 April 1866
Louis b. 17 Nov. 1870
Martha Iona b. 10 June 1873
I hope the above info helps me in finding my Carney lineage.
I live in Bellingham, Wash. Do any of you live in the Pacific Northwest?
Sincerely, Wally

Sorry, it's doesn't seem that we are related. My grandmother was Mary Wolford who married Thomas Carney. His parents were Patrick Carney & Bridget Kennedy from Ireland. They came to US about 1854 and died in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Thomas had a sister Mary who married John Connery. But there isn't any Anna in the family. Good luck in your search.
