Hi, I'm also interested in the Kearneys in Michigan. My grandmother was born
in Doonbeg, County Clare, Ireland in 1857 and was said to have come to Upper
Michigan with her father, Patrick, when she was 3 years old. This is
according to her obituary, which goes on to say that her mother stayed in
Detroit for a few months before joining them. I've always wondered why a 3
year old would come with her father and the mother would come later, although
there was a younger brother also born in Ireland - don't know where he was
during this time. Apparently there were Carneys living in lower Michigan
about that same time =- possibly relatives whom they were visiting??? Will
appreciate it if anyone can shed some light on this and maybe come up with
some relatives. Thanks for anything you can tell me. Mary S.
I've looked through the Detroit's Carney a lot of times and although some of
the names are the same, I haven't been able to make any connection as the
Carney's I have all came from Virginia and West Virginia and later drifting
to other locations. However these all seemed to have been in Michigan for
some time but it's still possible that there is a connection I haven't
located yet. Thanks for your help. One of these days we'll hit the
jackpot. There is 1776 people in the Carney's Family Tree so far and I
still have a listing of the Bonnett's that I need to figure out but I'm
going to put them in a separate tree and when I'm sure they're accurate will
merge them with the rest of the tree. The Bonnett's married into the family
way back when but I have information that takes me back much farther. Wish
me good luck. Congratulations on your new computer. Sounds like your having
a blast.
I've just finished transcribing the pages from City Directories for the city
of Detroit that contain Carney family information for the years 1903 and
1906. They can be viewed by clicking the Carney link at my home page, The
Brickmason's Sons, which is located at
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~bcarney .
