:Johnny Waldrop
PONTOTOC : John H. "Johnny" Waldrop, 69, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999,
at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was a former state senator,
a retiree of Equitable Life Insurance Co. and an inductee into the
Equitable Hall of Fame. He was also a carrier for the Northeast
Mississippi Daily Journal. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of the West Heights Baptist Church and the Rotary Club.
Services were Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at Browning Funeral Home in
Pontotoc with Bro. David Hamilton officiating. Burial was in Pontotoc
City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Aneita Carnes Waldrop; one daughter, Carol
Waldrop Shirley of Memphis; one son, Scott Waldrop of New Albany; one
stepdaughter, Nina Roberts of Pontotoc; two stepsons, Jonathan Carnes of
Kosciusko and Barry Carnes of Pontotoc; three sisters, Estelle McLean of
Jacksonville, Fla., Shelby Hayse of Tupelo and Mary Thompson of
Hernando;
one brother, Percy Waldrop of Tupelo; 11 grandchildren, Nelson and Mary
Morgan Shirley, Jimbo, John Holt and Mary Scott Waldrop, Haylee and Mark
Carnes, Adam and Amelia Carnes, and Cody and Cris Roberts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Donis Waldrop, and a
sister, Vivian Hillhouse.
Pallbearers were Fulton Tutor, Jim Grisham, Rex Mooney, Ed Barton,
Ronnie Patton and Gene Turner.
Honorary pallbearers were Jim Hubbard, Charles Thomas and Jimmy Roberts.
