Brenda,
I am posting this to the Carnes mail list, as several listers has answered
my query about Dr. John C. Carnes.
You are correct, Dr. John C. Carnes passed away in January, 2005.

I have just joined this list. I am a member of about a dozen rootsweb mail
lists. This is the first time I have encountered the responses going
automatically to the sender, rather than the CARNES-L(a)rootsweb.com.

Jim,
I used to email with Dr. C. about the Carnees line. After a couple
of months of getting no response from him, I started searching and
found an obit in the Sequen newspaper. I didn't save it, but you
could probably find it online.
His dear wife, Billie, had passed away a year or more before him and
he seemed truly to be grieving. But did make a trip to Ireland with
a niece to do more research. He kindly sent me some of the photos of
his trip. He was in his late 70s and had been in the Korean war. He
had been a pathologist. He also wrote a book (self-published I
think) that you might find. But it wasn't about the Carnes family.
Another family researcher that we will surely miss. He was always
kind, gracious, and informative when we emailed. I'm sorry you didn't
get to correspond with him.
As far as I know my Carnes family does not cross with the Georgia
Carnes family. I think your family is probably from the South
Carolina branch while mine comes out of Virginia.
Good luck on your research.

I'd like to get in touch with Dr. John C. Carnes, of Seguin,
Texas.
I've
seen his many postings on tlhe Carnes message boards at Rootsweb
and
GenForum, concerning the ancestors and descendants of Richard
Carnes of
Franklin County, GA (born 1774NJ-died after 1850 Hart County, GA).
I am a
descendant, through my mother Dorothy Newton Carnes, born 1910 Hart
County,
GA, died 1942, Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, NC.
Dr. Carnes indicated in several of his postings that he had
information
pertaining to the ancestors of this Richard Carnes of Franklin Co.,
GA.
None of the e-mail address I have found for him work.
Thanks,
Jim Gilmer
