Greetings Dane,
I don't know anything about the WAY family, but I am tracking the CARNE
family out of Charleston. My 8Xgrandparents were JOHN CARNE and MARY
HUTCHINSON who were married in 1765. They had two children that I know
of who survived to adulthood: THOMAS WILLIAM CARNE and ANN CLARKSON
CARNE, b. 13 January 1777. These were the two children listed in an
1801 gift conveyance by their father. If your MARY CARN were deceased
by 1801,then she might be a sibling. She might otherwise be a niece or
cousin. There are CARN, CARNE, CARNES, and CARNEY listings in SC during
this time period. I am ordering newspaper database listing from ESCN
for the surname and will be posting results to the CARNES-L list to
which I've cc'd this message.
Perhaps someone from that list can tell you more.
