Mrs. Brothers -
I am assuming that you are referring to a posting on the LDS website many years ago when
referencing the marriage of John Carnes to Penelope Coleman. I did indeed post
"information" to that site long ago when I first got started doing genealogy,
mostly in an effort to generate contacts with folks who were researching the same lines
and willing to share (as you were). I have learned a lot since then, including that there
were some errors in my information. I made an effort to correct the information, but at
the time LDS did not allow access. I have also learned that there are many errors in the
family trees available out there, but also many other online sources and hard copy
sources, including headstones, birth and death certificates, social security records,
census data, etc.
I have changed physical addresses since my posting to the LDS site so my address has
changed as has my email address. If your communications in fact went to the correct email
address or physical address and I did not respond, I apologize.
I would agree that it is unlikely that John Carnes did not marry Penelope Coleman in
Southold, but rather in Mendham, New Jersey after her father and family moved there.
My only sources for John Carnes include "The Family of John Carnes of San Jacinto
County, Texas by Vernon Richardson Crockett and some references from "The Histroy of
Descendants of the Jersey Settlers, Adams County, Mississippi", ppgs 174 Vol., 793,
826.
Good luck in your future research and I apologize for my contribution to your angst.
David Cummins
