Wynell, thanks so much for emailing me. I have a feeling there are
many out there that think like we do. It's one thing to make an error,
but how many people need to put the same information in on one person?
I "commented" to one of the culprits. Have heard nothing yet.
Do you have a Carnes line, Wynell? Gosh, it may be we've already
exchanged. I'm getting overwhelmed with this genealogy after 38 years.
Can't really remember who I've been in touch with.

Thank you for speaking up about the online trees. I thought I was alone in
thinking that the trees have turned into garbage. Most of the owners copy
unproven and mistaken information from other trees. They don't seem to care
if they spread false information. I guess it makes them look important to
have a tree online. How sad, because it could have been a great thing to be
able to share trees and save other people time and money. I am not talking
about just a few trees, I am talking about most of them.
Online trees could still be a great thing if there was a way to insist that
people give sources. I mean sources not another online family tree. I
realize that people who copy online trees will not take the time to follow
up on sources, but some of us do.
I have always been very willing to share with others, but now it is easier
for them to copy an online tree, false or not. They seem to believe them
more, because they are "in print."
I don't know how to solve this problem, but I think awareness might help.
