I have seen all this on-line also; but no documentation. I can trace my
Carnes line back to Richard Carnes b. NJ 1774 d. aft 1850 Hart County, GA.
I have seen all info on the Carnes lines in NJ, MD, New England, but have
not been able to document any connections. As you say, a lot out there, but
no substanting evidence.

Subject: [CARNES] Carnes of New Haven, Conn. (17th Century)
I'm researching Esther Carnes who -- according to Families of Ancient New
Haven (Donald Lines Jacobus, 1927) -- married William Payne (1695-1784) in
1720. According to Jacobus, she was the daughter of Thomas and Anna Carnes
(or Kerns).
Online, I've found numerous claims that Thomas was the son of John Inglis
Carnes (1614-1678) of Scotland and Ireland, grandson of Alexander Carnys De
Cairns (1571-1635) and great-grandson of John Cairns (d. 1603, Scotland). So
far, however, I have found no substantiation of this.
I'd appreciate any input.
