Hello Carnes Researchers,
My Carnes line is from Kentucky.
My first Carnes is said to be Edmund Perry(?) Carnes, who is said to have come
to Mentor, Kentucky on a flat boat after an argument with his stepmother in
Pennsylvania. He settled in with a family in the area and eventually met the
woman who would become his wife at the Trading Post (now Peach Grove)---her
name was Mary Jane Newkirk.
One of their sons, my ancestor, was Edward Preston (known as E.P.) who married
Mary Elizabeth Pettit in 1867, Pendleton Co. KY.
Their son is my great grandfather Charles W. Carnes b. 1872 who lived his life
in Pendleton Co. with his wife Grace Rouse.
Other than family information, I've had little progress in researching this
line. I'd be very glad to hear from anyone researching these people to share
information.
