Hello,
I am seeking information on John and Lizzie Carnes of Indian Territory
in mid to late 1800's . John had a brother named Harris Carnes. I found
some wills of Harris Carnes in which he mentions "My neice, Melvina
Goode, wife of John Goode" (my husband's grandparents) in the 1890's in
Blue County, Indian Territory(Now Bryan County , Oklahoma). In the
Probate and Court Records, it also shows where Harris Carnes adopted his
two Illegimate sons, Andrew and John Carnes in Sept. of 1879 and it was
granted in Dec. of 1879. at this time , Andrew was 2 and John was 11
years old. There is also a marriage of Andrew Carnes to Mirdel/Myrtle
Sparks on Dec.25, 1895 at Caddo, Indian Territory. A will of Andrew J
Carnes mentions his interest in the Hogs of the Estate of Harris Carnes,
filed on Dec.11th , 1896. In Feb.of 1885 , Hetty/Piety Carnes petitioned
for divorce from Harris Carnes. In one of his wills on Nov.9th, 1892,
Harris mentions"My beloved wife, Jincy Carnes.I am finding more on
Harris Carnes than I am on John and Lizzie Carnes. All I know about them
is that they were dead by the 1896 Choctaw Census and that they had
lived at Boktuklo. They had a son, Henry Carnes and a daughter , Melvina
M Goode born Nov. of 1963 and died on Jan.10th,1901 in Indian
Territory. She had a child ,James C Killingsworth when she married John
Goode. He later used the surname of Goode also. If anyone has any
information on any of these Carnes would you please share it as maybe it
will lead to further information on John and Lizzie
Carnes. Thanks, Billie
