Elizabeth,
There was a CARNES at the Constitutional Convention which met May 12,
1790 in South Carolina--he seemed to have had several opinions (like, he
thought it was a good idea for them to decide on a specific place to meet,
have a court, etc.), but never called by his first name. I had thought the
name was CARNE in the first reference I saw to this person. This appears on
page 374 in Rambles in the Pee Dee Basin , Harvey Toliver Cook, Columbia,
South Carolina: the State Company, 1926.
Do you know who this CARNES is? I decided he was too far afield to be
one of mine---unless my New Jersey John Carnes had a brother or uncle that
went south very early.
