Hello everyone. I'm new to the list. I'm hoping someone here can help me.
I'm looking for info about my 3rd Great-Grandfather.
Willam Carnes was born about 1792 in Pennsylvania and died July 1867 in
Muskingum County, Ohio. He was married to Susannah Guist, daughter of Jacob
Guist and Mary Gallagher. Susannah was born about 1793 in Pennsylvania and
died 1 July 1854 and was buried in the Blue Rock Baptist Church Cemetery, in
Blue Rock, Muskingum, Ohio.
They had 4 children that I am aware of - James E. (1823-1875), John L.
(1827-1910), Rebecca Ann (abt 1833-?) and Mary Jane (abt 1835-?).
While I have been fairly successful at tracing my mothers side of the
family. William has thwarted me at every turn.
Does anyone have any info about him - especially parent's and sibling names,
where in PA he was born, etc. ?
Thanks in advance,
Todd Carnes
P.S. I did manage to find them in the 1850 Census as follows...
1850 Census Ohio Muskingum Co. Meigs Twp.
William Carnes age 58 born in PA
Susannah age 57 born in PA
James age 25 born in Ohio
John age 22 born in Ohio
Rebecca age 17 born in Ohio
Mary age 15 born in Ohio
John Guist age 60 born in PA (in John Carnes houshold)
My ancestor, John Carnes 1735-1801 Mendham, NJ had a son William, who he
mentioned in his will, but the implication was that son William was in some way
infirm and needed care. John Carnes also had a son, Ephraim 1758-1841, who
did not come south, and a son, Samuel Swazey Carnes who acquired land near
Natchez, Miss. in 1799.
Just thought I'd share this because of the names.
