My cousin, Harvey Carnes sent in his DNA. So far, there are not any more
Carnes listed or if they are, they don't match. Harvey is about 5 or 6
generations back from Wells Carnes. We need to see if Wells' descendants and
Richard's match.
I would be willing to go in on paying for the cost of your Cousin's DNA. I
was going to pay for Harvey's, but he insisted on paying for it himself. He
said to put it on somebody else's so I am willing to do that. The Group
Administrator on the Carney list is named Terry Barton. FTdna folks are easy
to work with. Someone who is interested - possibly you - or me if I paid for
it - would need to put their e-mail address on there as a contact person and
to fill out all the forms, etc.
I think 25 markers would be enough. We did 37. Some just do 12. They say
that if the folks have the same name and the first 12 match, there is a good
chance that they are from the same line.
If there needs to be an upgrade (which only amounts to fine tuning), it can
be done from 12 without submitting any more DNA. They would want to tell the
folks that they were a member of the Carney group. This includes several
other names including Carnes.
You can go to
FTdna.com and a lot of questions are answered. The amount
charged that is shown is discounted if you are a member of a group.
I don't know if you can get in to see Harvey's dna or not.
What has come up so far matches fairly closely with an Irish King way back.
They used it for an example to show what it looked like. The other example
was Genghis Khan.
Harvey's matched his except in the 4th place which was one number off and
the rest of the way through 37 except at the 35 place which was also one
number off. There are mutations over a really long time.
Do a search for Naill of the Nine Hostages and you can see something about
him. I'll try to find the page where Naill's DNA is shown.

Betty,
Is there a Carnes DNA project on-going now, and are the results being
published on a web site somewhere?
I am a descendant of Richard Carnes, b. 1774 NJ, d. aft 1850 Franklin/Hart
Co., GA. My mother was a Carnes from Hart County, GA. I'd like to see if I
can persuade some of my male Carnes cousins to participate.

My male Carnes cousin has submitted his DNA for testing. The test has been
completed for 37 markers. We are hoping that some other male Carnes will
submit their DNA to see if there is a match. We have 5 generations proven
before the submitter who was born in 1925
Information on how to submit may be obtained at
FTdna.com.
My cousin joined a Carney group to get a reduced rate. If we get enough
Carnes surnames, we can switch at no extra cost to just or Carnes lineage,
or remain with the Carney group.
Our Carnes line goes back from Texas to Mississippi to Alabama to Georgia.
It is thought that they were in Maryland and New Jersey prior to Georgia,
but we have no positive proof of that.
